Community-led maternity support for Black women and other marginalized groups in Lewisham, South East London. Care that is safe, respectful, and culturally sensitive.
About Us
Equitable Birth Support CIC is a community-led organisation committed to improving maternity experiences and outcomes for women and families in Lewisham.
Our primary focus is on Black women and other marginalised groups who continue to face poorer outcomes than their white counterparts during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.
We believe every family deserves care that is safe, respectful and culturally sensitive.
What We Do
We provide accessible, community-based support through a range of services designed to meet families where they are.
Culturally sensitive antenatal education that empowers families with knowledge and confidence for their pregnancy journey.
Safe spaces for connection, shared learning and emotional support throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period.
Individual midwife consultations for women and families who may need extra guidance or reassurance.
Digital resources and pregnancy information in multiple languages, ensuring accessible and inclusive support.
By working collaboratively with the NHS, local authorities, and community partners, we aim to bridge the gap in maternity inequalities and strengthen trust between families and services.
Why It Matters
Black women and other marginalised groups continue to experience poorer outcomes in maternity care.
Our work helps address these inequalities through early education, culturally informed support, and community empowerment, so that every pregnancy and every birth is met with compassion and dignity.
